A Renaultnál versenyző Carlos Sainz jr. is ugyanis szeptember 30-ig biztosan a Red Bull kötelékében kell, hogy szolgáljon, de amint Ricciardo újra aláír, szabaddá válhat, és nem kell visszamennie a Toro Rossoba. Ez azt is jelenti egyben, hogy a Red Bull nem siet elviekben Ricciardo bejelentésével, mert az ő menetrendjüket már semmi sem akasztja meg, de a Renault dolgát nehezíthetik ugyanakkor.
